Identity theft is a crime at both the state and federal levels.
Nevada's identity theft law (NRS
205.463), makes it a crime to use personal
identifying information of another individual with the
intent to fraudulently obtain credit, property or
services. It also takes into account computer and
Internet technology, and makes it a crime to aid or abet
another person in securing this personal identifying
information.
Federal and state governments have taken steps to crack
down on identity theft, but the victims of identity
theft have been left on their own. People whose
identities have been stolen can spend an enormous amount
of time cleaning up the mess the thieves have made of
their good name and credit record.
