Does the Attorney General provide legal services to citizens like me?
Yes and no. The Attorney General serves as the legal counsel for State agencies, boards and commissions, but does not provide direct legal services to private citizens. We prosecute and litigate on behalf of consumers harmed by misbehavior in the marketplace through our consumer protection (link to BCP Page) efforts, but these do not equate with direct legal services or representation. If you are seeking legal advice or direction, see legal resources (link to Legal Resources Page) for some links to agencies that can assist you in private matters—some at reduced cost or even free.

The Office of the Attorney General is in fact prohibited by law from giving legal advice to private citizens or acting on any private legal matters. However, you may want to check the state's Index of Agencies, for information on contacting other state agencies that might better suit your needs in certain situations.

What do I do if I am unhappy with a lawyer?
Attorneys licensed to practice law in Nevada are regulated by the State Bar of Nevada (link to http://www.nvbar.org) and any complaints, questions, or concerns should be submitted to the Bar.

In Southern Nevada:

Fax: (702) 385-2878

In Northern Nevada:
State Bar of Nevada
Attn: Discipline Department
1325 Airmotive Way, Suite 140
Reno, Nevada 89502
Telephone: (775) 329-4100
Fax: (775) 329-0522

What do I do if I am unhappy with a Judge or District Attorney?

The district attorney is an elected public official, placed in office by the citizens of the county. The Office of the Attorney General respects each district attorney's prosecutorial discretion. Your most expedient recourse is to complain directly to the district attorney since, as an elected official, that officer has an interest in constituent service.

If you wish to file a complaint against a judge, contact the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline:

Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline
P.O. Box 48
Carson City , Nevada 89702
Telephone: (775) 687-4017
Fax: (775) 687-3607
